Morgantown Citizens Academy Returns with Expanded Program- Now Accepting Applications!

Community Education Live Local, Love Local, Spend Local Political
The City of Morgantown is now accepting applications for the 2026 Morgantown Citizens Academy, a free civic education program that gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how city government works.
The program includes an orientation, 10 instructional sessions, a Mock City Council Night, and a graduation ceremony. Participants engage directly with city departments, learn how local decisions are made, and complete a community service commitment through the City’s Adopt-A-Street Program.
The Academy is free and open to the public. Applicants must be 18 or older and reside in Monongalia County, with priority given to City of Morgantown residents. Two seats are reserved for WVU students.
New this year, graduates may earn a digital micro-credential through a partnership with West Virginia University.
Applications open: February 2, 2026
