Changing Vegas Studios to Capitalize on State's New DUNA Act

For Immediate Release
Morgantown Social Gaming Startup Partners with Kiduna and Joins the Dunathon as WV HB 5060 Takes Effect July 1
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Changing Vegas Studios, LLC, the Morgantown-based social gaming company behind Medieval Poker, announces today that it is among the first companies in West Virginia to organize a community association under the state’s new Decentralized Unincorporated Nonprofit Association (DUNA) Act — HB 5060 — which takes effect next week on July 1, 2026.
The player-governed community arm of Changing Vegas Studios is being structured under the new law, which Governor Patrick Morrisey signed on April 2, 2026, making West Virginia one of only three states in the nation — alongside Wyoming and Alabama — to provide this innovative legal framework for community-governed organizations.
Entering the Agentic Economy
To take advantage of HB 5060, Changing Vegas Studios is partnering with Kiduna, a Shepherdstown, West Virginia organization supporting DUNA adoption, and will be participating in the Dunathon, an event that runs all summer long, during which development of Gamer Gates will begin. The Dunathon is sponsored by the University of Charleston Downtown Innovation Hub, the WV Blockchain Foundation, and Kinship Intelligence Institute.
As found on the Showcase at kiduna.club, Gamer Gates is a casual game DUNA, consisting of card games, board games, RPGs, as well as online games. Changing Vegas Studios will be developing its Medieval Poker mobile gaming app as part of this initiative. On August 11, the state of West Virginia will be holding DUNA Day at the Capitol to celebrate adoption of the legislation.
“West Virginia just positioned itself at the frontier of a new kind of organization — one where the community actually governs itself,” said Dave Thompson, CEO of Changing Vegas Studios. “We are a social gaming company, and we believe the DUNA structure is exactly right for building a player community that has real voice, governance, and standing.”
