Community-Focused Renovation Moves Closer to Reality, Bringing New Life to a Beloved Landmark

Morgantown, WV – The Historic Morgantown Post Office Building, Inc. (HPO) project, a cornerstone of Morgantown's downtown revitalization efforts, has reached an exciting milestone with the completion of its Design Development package. This significant step brings the community one step closer to transforming the beloved landmark into a vibrant hub for history, arts, and community engagement.

The renovation of the HPO will provide a new home for the Morgantown History Museum, Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, and the Monongalia Arts Center. Each of these organizations will benefit from enhanced facilities designed to support their missions and expand their impact. The Design Development package, developed by Landmarks SGA, details innovative plans for updated exhibition spaces, modernized classrooms for arts education, and versatile community areas that will host a variety of events, workshops, and cultural activities.

"The completion of the Design Development phase is a major achievement for the HPO project," said Jane Cardi, Board President. "This milestone reflects the collective vision of our community, incorporating feedback from local residents and stakeholders to ensure the renovated space meets the diverse needs of Morgantown. We are thrilled to be moving closer to a space where history, art, and community can thrive together."

Community-Centric Design and Benefits
The project has been shaped by community input and is designed to be a dynamic center for local culture and education. The Design Development package showcases several sustainable design features, blending the building's historical charm with modern functionality. The revitalized HPO will offer state-of-the-art facilities while preserving its architectural heritage, ensuring it remains a treasured part of Morgantown's identity.

The renovated space will create new opportunities for educational programs, artistic expression, and community gatherings by strengthening collaboration among local cultural institutions. The project is also expected to contribute to Morgantown's economic growth by attracting visitors and enhancing the vibrancy of the downtown area.

Looking Ahead: Continuing Community Support
Community support remains vital to the success as the HPO project advances toward the construction phase. The project is currently in a quiet fundraising phase to ensure a swift completion,  aiming to secure 60% of the $15 million total project cost before launching larger public fundraising efforts. This strategy will help minimize the time between individual contributions and the realization of the completed project.

While current fundraising efforts are focused on major gifts, contributions to the project are always welcome. And there will soon be opportunities for everyone to show their support. Upcoming events will be announced, and volunteer opportunities are available. "We invite all members of the Morgantown community to join us in this exciting journey," added Cardi. "Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to creating a space that celebrates our shared heritage and inspires future generations."
