About

Scouting America’s Mountaineer Area Council was founded in 1928, and proudly serves over 2,000 Scouts and their families in 22 counties of northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We offer Scouting programs (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring) that participate in a variety of activities throughout the year.

Our council is home to Camp Mountaineer, Sandscrest Scout Reservation, and Fort Steuben Scout Reservation. These camps provide year-round opportunities for camping, hiking, skill-building, and hands-on learning in the great outdoors.

Mountaineer Area Council Service Centers and Scout Shops are located in Wheeling (Ohio County) and Fairmont (Marion County) West Virginia.

Our nonprofit proudly serves youth in north central West Virginia, providing the Scouting America program that teaches leadership skills, builds character, offers citizenship training, and develops personal fitness.
