The WVU Committee of Retired Faculty and OLLI at WVU will host Esports: Beyond Gaming by Christopher Scroggins on Wednesday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m. on Zoom. A Q&A will follow. The event is free and open to the public. While the esports industry is going through a market correction, it still boasts multi-billion dollar annual revenues and is globally renowned for its competitive nature and entertainment value. In Esports: Beyond Gaming, Christopher Scroggins will provide an overview of the esports industry, discuss the current esports education landscape, and outline the benefits of implementing a holistic esports program. Additionally, he will summarize the current esports opportunities at WVU and how the program plans to set itself apart. Christopher Scroggins serves as the Academic Director of Esports and a Service Assistant Professor at West Virginia University. Within his role, he manages departmental operations, mentors learners, develops curriculum, and facilitates relationships with industry partners. In addition to his role at WVU, he is the CEO and Co-founder of Esports Development and Growth Enterprise (EDGE). At EDGE, he oversees the company’s day-to-day business operations. Before his role with WVU, Scroggins was an Instructor of Esports at Shenandoah University. He has presented at numerous academic conferences, headlined multiple podcasts, and appeared on major media and news sources such as NPR.
