Wednesday Lecture: New Drug to Fight Bone Erosion
Wednesday Lecture: New Drug to Fight Bone Erosion
Wednesday, March 5, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) (EST)
Description
OLLI at WVU and the Committee of Retired Faculty will host, Development of ELP-004, a drug that prevents pathological bone degradation associated with arthritis, several forms of cancer, and space travel, a virtual presentation by Dr. John Barnett, President and Chief Sc Officer of ExesaLibero Pharma in Morgantown. Bone health requires constant new bone cell production by osteoblast cells in balance with the removal of older bone. When this balance is skewed, it causes bone-degrading disease, commonly seen in RA. Bone degradation in RA is not unique; many other diseases, e.g., some cancers, and space travel show bone loss. Current treatments used for bone loss have numerous serious side effects, creating a compelling need for a drug that is useable for RA to prevent bone loss. ExesaLibero Pharma is completing the preclinical development of ELP-004, an innovative, unique, small-molecule drug that provides an exciting new approach to suppressing bone erosion that affects millions of people. Barnett will describe how ExesaLibero discovered ELP-004, how the drug works, and show data that will be used to support our application to the FDA to begin clinical trials. The presentation is free and open to the public. Register at https://olliatwvu.wufoo.com/forms/m19t2bjp0ltfqht/ to receive a Zoom link.Additional Info
