Thursday, September 17, 2026 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

OLLI at WVU will host the 20th annual Irving Goodman Aging Lecture on Thursday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m. This year's lecture, Residents Aware Network for Intelligent Assistance (RANIA): Enabling Your Home to Become the Frontline Caregiver, will be delivered by Dr. Ramana Reddy. Advances in AI, Natural Language Understanding, sensors, wearables, and communication protocols are revolutionizing care of the elderly, as modeled in the RANIA House at WVU. Developed at the GeronTechnology Lab, the Residents Aware Network for Intelligent Assistance employs systems that enable homes to become intelligent, responsive environments to aid older adults to continue living in their own homes. These innovations support safety, independence, and dignity for older adults, and align with broader efforts—such as initiatives from organizations like AARP—to address the challenges and opportunities of an aging population. Y. V. Ramana Reddy is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Smart Living Space Lab (SLS Lab) at West Virginia University. He has worked on a number of research areas with the central theme of enabling technologies for improvement of collaborative processes involving widely distributed teams. The areas of research include Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Based Simulation, Concurrent Engineering, Medical Informatics, Telemedicine, Distance Learning, and technologies to enable Smart Living Spaces for People of All Abilities, which is his current focus. The lecture will be held in-person at the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Green Bag Rd in Morgantown, and on Zoom. It is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Register at https://wvusph-olli.augusoft.net/ or by calling the OLLI office at 304-293-1793.
