SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting & Mural Dedication: America250 Downtown Historic Mural at Wall Steet
DESCRIPTION:Join Main Street Morgantown for the official dedication and ribbon cutting of the Wall Street Mural\, a new public art installation spanning Wall Street Alley between High and Chestnut Streets in Historic Downtown Morgantown.Created by West Virginia artist Blake Wheeler\, the mural transforms what was once a plain alley into a vibrant visual story honoring Morgantown's rich history\, from its industrial roots to the people and moments that shaped the community. As part of America250\, the mural serves as Monongalia County's stop on West Virginia's statewide mural trail spanning all 55 counties\, celebrating local heritage and community identity through public art. This project represents nearly two years of collaboration\, including 59 artist applications from multiple states\, a thoughtful multi-organization selection process\, public input sessions and generous community support. Main Street Morgantown partnered with the owner of the Historic Morgan Theater Building to facilitate the artist selection and final design process.Supported through a combination of state investment\, organizational partnerships\, business support and community contributions\, the Wall Street Mural reflects what can happen when artists\, property owners\, organizations\, businesses\, donors and community leaders come together to invest in Downtown Morgantown. The dedication ceremony also kicks off Historic Preservation Month\, highlighting the importance of preserving and investing in the places that tell our local and national stories.Main Street Morgantown's Alley Revitalization Initiative uses public art\, beautification and placemaking improvements to create more welcoming\, attractive and vibrant downtown spaces. To learn more about the mural project\, artist and community supporters\, visit: https://morgantownpartnership.com/main-street-morgantown/alley-revitalization/
